About Us

MW Sports CIC was formed in 2014 by Michael Wilde and Stephen Murphy, building on three years of success of MW Sports. We are a non-profitable Community Interest Company based in Merseyside, dedicated to the positive role that sport can play in furthering the lives of people across the North West.

MW Sports CIC is committed to developing a culture of leading a healthy active lifestyle for children and young adults of all ages and abilities, working with schools, colleges and a range of stakeholders designing and measuring innovative practices that introduce more people to the positive benefits of sport, health and recreation.

The aim of any MW Sports CIC project is to provide young people with the opportunity to learn and develop their skills in their chosen physical activity, whilst also understanding the importance of leading a healthy active lifestyle. The MW Sports team provide fun professional action packed coaching in a safe, friendly and fun environment.

 

 

MW Sports CIC are accredited to deliver all Sports Leader Awards and Qualifications which assist young people in their development of essential life skills such as;

Michael Wilde

Michael has spent the last 20 plus years competing in full time football, he has represented football clubs both in England and Wales. His experiences have brought domestic league success and consecutive promotions, along with gaining over 50 European appearances in both Europa and Champions league competitions.

During this period Michael successfully completed a BSc Sports Coaching degree (2:1) and a PGCE in Further Education, alongside multiple sporting coaching qualifications, including ‘UEFA A’ licence (Level 4) in Coaching Football.

Currently Michael is back playing in the Welsh Premier League for Connah’s Quay Football Club and is undertaking a MA Sports Coaching, whilst being a director at MW Sports CIC and working closely with a range of well-established sporting and community organisations, including delivery for the Welsh FA on their coach education level 1 & 2 courses.

Michael’s current role as Head of Football Development at Tranmere Rovers FC Centre of Development sees him Tutor / Coach / Mentor U19’s Elite players on Further and Higher Education programmes, as well as managing them in the National Youth Football league.

 

Stephen Murphy

Stephen represented Liverpool, Wigan, Tranmere and Wrexham at schoolboy level, going on to captain his district and county. Stephen then went on to complete a Health and Sport Development Degree at Liverpool Hope University. Since graduating, Stephen has worked across a number of schools as a P.E teacher and in recent years has undertaken a senior leader role with pastoral responsibilities. This has been alongside directing MW Sports CIC’s youth provision in Merseyside and Cheshire.

 

Leigh Allan

Leigh has worked in the youth and community sector for almost 14 years. Leigh is passionate about the having an impact and supporting others to realise their potential. Leigh has worked for various local charities and now works within a national charity, where she has developed a deeper understanding about the benefits physical activity has on health and wellbeing. Leigh has experience of working alongside funders and her role at MW Sports focuses on developing funding streams to support new and existing provision across Merseyside and Cheshire.
